The Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships were first held in 1877, witnessed by as little as 100 spectators in a garden party atmosphere, but over the years it has grown to a highly professional tournaments attracting an attendance of almost 500,000 people each year. Players from more than 60 countries will compete this year and will be closely watched by millions around the world through the media including the Internet, press, radio and television.
Come and see some world known sporting stars such as Andy Murray, Roger Federer and the Williams sisters competing and enjoy the traditional snack of strawberries and cream. In 2009 approximately 26,500 kilos of strawberries, 1,540 gallons of cream, 200,000 glasses of Pimms and 20,000 of Champagne bottles were consumed during the Championships.
And finally, great news for all spectators and players alike. The rain will not stop play on the Centre Court anymore as a new roof has been built over it last year to avoid any disappointments caused by the weather and the capacity of seats has also been increased to 15,000.
Last year's winners were Roger Federer and Serena Williams, let's see who will take the first possitions this time!
