The Open Air Theatre in Regents Park opens the door again this summer and invites you to see the famous Into The Woods musical.
Into the Woods tells the stories of the Brothers Grimm with added dark and humorous twist. The favourite tales of Red Riding Hood, Jack (from the Beanstalk story), Cinderella and Rapunzel are interwoven with that of the Baker and his Wife and their quest to have children. However this re-telling goes beyond "happily ever after" as the familiar characters find themselves in unfamiliar circumstances, and their hopes and dreams are crashed.
Composed by Stephen Sondheim who is celebrating his 80th birthday this year you can expect a fantastic sound accompanying the show. The composer made his name in the music industry by putting together masterpieces such as A Little Night Music, Sunday in the park with George and the latest version of the Oscar winning film Sweeney Todd.
Into the Woods is co-directed by Timothy Sheader and Liam Steel following their previous collaboration on Romeo and Juliet.
Steel also directed the 2009 family production of The Tempest at the Open Air Theatre and Sheader's record-breaking production of Hello, Dolly! from last year's Open Air Theatre won Best Musical in the Evening Standard Theatre Awards and Best Musical Revival in the Olivier Awards.
